Haunted Rock
The story of “Batu belah batu bertangkup
‘or the big haunted rock was a very famous story in Malay community. The story was about a very poor husband and
wife. The Husband name kantan and the wife name Tanjung. They done weaving
matt, catch fish and working at paddy field to support their daily lives. One
day. They went to jungle to find some vegetables for dinner; suddenly they
heard a very scary loud noise. Kantan
told Tanjung that the sound was came from the Big Haunted rock that his grandfather
has told him when he was small. Few
years later, they
were blessed with two children, a
daughter named Melor and boy named Pekan. However,
they father passed away when the children
still small. This make the Tanjung had to raise
the children alone and this make her very stressed. One day the Tanjung went to
the river to fishing and she was lucky to catch Tembakul fish. Tanjung was craving
for the fish egg. She was very happy. She asked Melor to cook the fish and the
egg fish and ask Melor to keep little bit of the egg for her as she went to
bathing. After the egg fish was cooked, Melor give half to her brother Pekan
and keep half for her mother. Pekan insists to have more egg fish. He keep crying
and forcing his sister to give him the egg. Now the egg was finish eaten all by
Pekan. Melor find chicken egg to replace the fish egg. Tanjung was so angry
when she knew the fish egg already finish. She was so sad and feels that the
children not love her. Tanjung without thinking any further she goes out and
run to the big haunted rock. She crying and keep asking the big haunted rock
eat and swallow her because she cannot eat the fish egg. Melor and Pekan go
after they mother and try to stop her, but it was too late when they arrived in
front of the cave because Tanjung already been eaten by the haunted rock. Melor and Pekan was crying until they fell
asleep. Melor and Pekan
meet an old women when they stop to rest. The Old women bring them to stay with
her. Since then Melor and pekan lives with the old women until they grown up.
Melor become beautiful and clever while pekan become hensome and succesful with
his chicken fighting games. The king
fall in love with Melor and proposed to her
as his Queen. While Pekan married with a beautiful princess after his
chicken beat the king chicken. One day the king saw his Queen look glommy and
sad. King wants to know what makes his Queen sad and asked her. Melor told the king that
she was sad because she thought of her mother. She told her mother was killed by
the big haunted rock. King asks his man to destroy the haunted rock. Since that
time they never heard the scary loud noise anymore.
SCRIPT
Once open a time, there is a poor
husband and wife lived in the jungle. The Husband called Kantan and the wife is
Tanjung. They had done farming, weaving matt; work on paddy field and fishing
to make a living. One very fine day, they were looking for some vegetables in
the jungle when they heard a Very loud and very scary. Kantan then told Tanjung
that the voice actually came from a big haunted rock as his father told him
when he was small.
Tanjung:
“husband did you hear that noise? That noise very scary. What was that? Where
is came from?
Kantan:
Oh dear, my father told me, the sound come the the Big haunted rock.
(Kantan then told Tanjung that the voice
actually came from a big haunted rock as his father told him when he was
small.)
Few years later Tanjung and Kantan was
blessed with two children. The girl named Melor and the boy name Pekan. However
Kantan did not make it. He was passed away when his children still small.
Tanjung was very sad and lost.
One day Tanjung went to the river to
fishing. She was happy when she catches a Tembakul fish as she was craving for
the fish egg. Tanjung hurry up goes back home and ask Melor to cook the fish
egg.
Tanjung:
“I want to go bath for a while, please take good care of you brother Pekan”.
Melor:
“yes Mother”.
After Melor cook the fish egg, she gives
half to Pekan and another half she keep for her mother. But Pekan not gets
enough. He was forcing his sister to give him more of the fish egg. Eventually
all the egg was eaten by Pekan.
Pekan:
“I want eat the fish egg! Please sister! Please!
Melor:
“but this is left for mother, Pekan.”
Pekan:
“I don’t care! I want to eat!”
Melor:
“oh no! The egg is finish. Oh my God, what shall I do, mother must be angry. I
better cook the chicken egg as replacement”.
Tanjung already came home. She looks
happy and ready to eat. Melor look so
pale and she scared her mother will scolded her. She opens the food cover and
only saw a chicken egg. She so angry and so sad because cannot eat the fish egg
that she craving all this while.
Tanjung:
“Melor, where is my fish egg? Did you left it for me as a ask you to do?”
Melor:
“Mother, I’m sorry, the fish egg was finish eaten by Pekan. He was forcing me
to give him the other half. I told him that was for you, but he didn’t listen.
Mother I already cooks the chicken as replacement”.
Tanjung:
“how could you do that to me? Don’t you love me? I so upset with you. I better
let the haunted rock eat and swallow me.
Tanjung without thinking futher go out
and run toward to the Haunted Rock. She was crying and keeps talking to the
haunted rock to eat her.
Tanjung:
“haunted rock please eats and swallows me. I cannot eat tembakul fish egg.
Melor and Pekan run after they mother.
Melor:
“Mother please don’t go, please forgive us mother, please wait for us
mother”.
Tanjung didn’t care to hear her children
yelling, she keeps running toward the haunted rock and finally the rock eats
her as her wish. It’s too late for her children to save her from the Haunted
Rock. Melor and Pekan crying and call for they mother until they fall as sleep.
The old women approach them.
Nenek
Kebayan: Children, what are you doing here?
Melor:
we are resting from long journey. Who are you old women?
Nenek
Kebayan: Just call me nenek kebayan. You two look tired and hungry come follow
me to my house.
Melor and Pekan follow the old women to
her tent. She gave them food and water to drink. Since then Melor and Pekan
stay with the nenek kebayan.
Few years later, Melor and Pekan had
grown up. Melor become beautiful and clever. Pekan becomes handsome and
successful with his chicken fighting games.
The king falling in loves with Melor
beauty and kindness. He proposed her to become is Queen. Melor was married to
the king. Pekan beat the king chicken fighting and the rewards he was married
to the princess.
One day, The King saw Melor look very
down and sad. The king wonders what make his Queen act like that. The king asks
Melor what happen. Melor told the king
what was happen to her mother. The King asks his man to go to the Haunted Rock
and destroyed it. Since that day, the loud noise and scary voice from the cave
never been heard again.
